Biobased resins
biorene® is a new generation of polymers known as bio-based materials, which incorporate biomass into their manufacturing process, enabling new connections between industries such as chemicals and agriculture. These bio-based resins are produced by blending conventional plastics—such as polystyrene, polypropylene, or polyethylene—with starch. Certain biorene® grades are certified as OK-biobased by TÜV Austria. Products that can be manufactured include single-use disposable items such as cutlery, straws, bags, lids, cups, plates, and thermoformed trays.
Technical benefits
biorene® products deliver competitive performance compared to traditional petroleum-based plastics.
They can be processed using the same equipment employed for conventional resins and, moreover, require less energy during processing. This results in improved productivity, combined with an intrinsic characteristic derived from the use of biodegradable components (starch): they are environmentally friendly.
